Most of our patients here at Galt Dermatology are familiar with the dermal fillers and Botox injectables our board-certified physicians use to treat fine lines and wrinkles.
However, there is one collagen stimulating dermal filler that stands out from the rest. Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved treatment to restore volume to thinning, wrinkled skin. Our physicians recommend Sculptra to patients who are seeking subtle, gradual enhancements and long-lasting results. Dr. Villacorta is one of Fort Lauderdale’s top-rated dermatologists, with extensive training and experience injecting Sculptra. Below, we’ll introduce you to Sculptra Aesthetic, and why this dermal filler is a leader.
What is Sculptra Aesthetic?
Like other injectables such as Restylane® and Juvederm®, Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler used to restore lost volume, and enhance facial contours. However, Sculptra plumps the skin and stimulates collagen in the skin with its primary active ingredient, Poly-L-Lactic Acid.
Collagen is the essential protein found in the body and a component of our skin and bones. Collagen stores in the body deplete naturally with age. So Sculptra is a wonderful treatment to restore the skin’s collagen and to achieve a subtle, more youthful appearance.
Why Sculptra is Different
The majority of dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid as their base to plump the skin. Although effective, these fillers have a relatively short lifetime, lasting anywhere between 9-12 months before they begin to break down. Sculptra works synergistically with the skin, restoring volume through collagen stimulation.
3 Fast-Facts:
1. Sculptra results last 2-3 years.
Unlike most standard dermal fillers, Sculptra stimulates collagen in the skin for longer-lasting, gradual enhancements. Patients generally need 2-3 treatments to achieve their desired results.
2. Sculptra cannot be used to plump under-eye hollows.
Sculptra is not a recommended treatment for under-eye hollows. The skin underneath the eyes is extremely thin and delicate, and bumps may form if this area is treated.
3. Sculptra can be used for sagging skin and larger areas.
Sculptra will add subtle volume to larger areas of the face and body. If you are noticing sagging skin, consider Sculptra for nasolabial folds and jowls.
Post-Treatment Expectations
On the day of treatment, Dr. Villacorta will take before and after photos, and prep the skin by cleansing and numbing the injection site. Following treatment, you will need to gently massage your face for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for the next 5 days.
After 2 months, you will follow up with Dr. Villacorta to see your progress. Minor redness, swelling, and bruising may occur following treatment, but should not amount to extreme severity, and should disappear after 3-5 days. You may choose to conceal any bruising with some light makeup.
Sculptra works gradually to restore elasticity, volume, and a youthful appearance to the skin. Patients typically achieve their desired result within 3-6 treatments. The results from Sculptra treatments will last 2-3 years, which is significantly longer than other injectables.
