Eliminate Fine Lines & Smooth Wrinkles

Fine Line and Wrinkle Treatments In Fort Lauderdale

A natural byproduct of the aging process, fine lines, and wrinkles form as skin loses its natural elasticity and resilience. The most common areas to see fine lines and wrinkles are:

  • Forehead
  • Eyes (Crows Feet)
  • Lower face (Marionette Lines/Smile Lines)
  • Around the mouth (barcode lines or smokers lines)

Even the best skincare products can only do so much when it comes to aging. At Galt Dermatology, we offer a variety of fine line & wrinkle treatments to restore your confidence in a youthful appearance. Treatment options vary from patient to patient, depending on the depth of wrinkles and desired outcomes. Our most common treatments for fine lines and wrinkle smoothing may include:

Neuromodulators (Botox and Dysport)

Uses: Wrinkles, Frown lines, Aging skin, Crow’s feet, Excessive sweating, Wrinkle prevention

How does Botox or Dysport work?

Our faces are made of multiple small muscles that control our facial movements. Over time, repetitive use of these muscles produces wrinkling effects seen on the surface of the skin. Neuromodulators work to soften and eliminate these lines creating a smooth canvas and preventing further lines from forming. Small amounts of Botox or Dysport are injected into the underlying muscle causing the muscle to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

These products can be used for a wide spectrum of ages and for varying effects. In the case of patients in their 20s and 30s, neuromodulators can be used to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. This can be done by using a special technique called microtox which involves multiple small injections of less product creating a softening look while still allowing the patient to have movement of their facial muscles.

For patients with existing facial wrinkles, neuromodulators will help eliminate fine lines and soften deep wrinkles. For some patients, combination of neuromodulators and fillers might be needed to completely eliminate deep wrinkles.

How long does it last?

After treatment it could take up to a week to see the full results. Usually results last approximately 3-4 months depending on the patient. The longer you do Botox, the less wrinkles you will acquire as the muscles will have undergone longer “wrinkle free time”.

Dermal Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra)

Dermal Filler Uses: Lip enhancement, Under Eye hollows, Cheek volume, Acne scars, Aging skin, Frown lines, Wrinkles, Scars, Jaw line definition, Hand rejuvenation

As we age, we naturally lose fat and bone in our faces, leading to sagging skin effects or hollowed-out segments of our face. The goal of filler is to re-contour the face and ease the transition between facial areas maintaining a youthful and healthy appearance.

Most fillers contain hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance throughout our body and skin). Depending on the filler, they can also be made of calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) or poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra). The filler is gently injected into the soft tissue of the face and massaged into the area of interest. Mild bruising and swelling at the injection site can occur often alleviated by applying ice packs to the treatment area after.

Fillers are used for facial volume loss or patients looking to enhance their existing facial structure and contour. Fillers can help lift sagging skin. These products can also be used to plump lips and help correct uneven lip size or shape. Placed properly, the filler should accentuate the patient’s facial features and give a youthful symmetric appearance.

For those with deep facial wrinkles, fillers might be needed to help fill in the deep lines and even out the skin. Used in conjunction with Botox or Dysport, fillers can help decrease and eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Fillers can also be used for pitting acne scars serving the fill in the skin irregularity, creating a smooth, even surface.

From treating small superficial wrinkles to deeper folds, Dr. Villacorta knows exactly which filler should be injected for which indication. Dermal fillers are used for:

  • Lip contouring
  • Volumizing and plumping the lips
  • Improving folds of the upper and lower lip
  • Smoothing nasolabial folds
  • Improving marionette folds
  • Cheek volumization and rejuvenation
  • Jawline definition
  • Hand rejuvenation
  • Lifting acne and other scars
  • Rejuvenating aging skin
  • Persons with hypersensitivity or prior allergic reaction to hyaluronic acid or one of the other ingredients of the filler
  • Patients suffering from immune suppression or a tendency to keloids and those undergoing blood-thinning medication or with coagulation disorders
  • Patients with an active infection at the planned injection site
  • Women who are breastfeeding, pregnant, or plan to become pregnant

After the treatment, slight redness or swelling may be temporarily visible, and sometimes a small bruise may appear. All of this usually disappears in the next few days.

Immediately after the filler treatment, you can go about your usual daily business or work. Avoid heavy physical work, sports activities on the first day after the treatment, and cosmetic treatments on the first two days after the treatment. You can apply makeup 12 hours after your procedure.

Except for Sculptra, you should not massage the previously treated areas. You may feel numbness for a few hours in the treated areas from the local anesthetic.

Some fullness is visible right away, although this is mostly due to mild, temporary swelling. The effect of fillers can be seen within a few days, although it can take up to two weeks to see the full effects. Depending on the type of filler used and on the patient’s metabolism, effects can last from six months to over two years. As you continue to use fillers, you will notice longer-lasting results.
