1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer.

Over 1 million Americans are diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma every year. This form of skin cancer begins in your skin cells when squamous growth accelerates.

At Galt Dermatology, we understand the anxiety that follows a skin cancer diagnosis. Our experienced and compassionate dermatologists are committed to stopping cancer from spreading through early diagnosis and squamous cell carcinoma treatment in Fort Lauderdale.

What is Squamous Cell Carcinoma?

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common form of skin cancer, after basal cell carcinoma. SCCs can appear anywhere but develop most commonly on the scalp, face, ears, and backs of hands. These lesions typically appear as rough bumps, which slowly grow over time, or may appear as a reoccurring sore or wound that does not heal.

Elderly individuals, those with more fair complexions, and those who regularly expose their skin to sunlight are at a higher risk for developing squamous cell carcinoma.

What Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treatments Address

It is important to note that if you have been diagnosed with actinic keratosis—a pre-cancerous skin condition—you are at a much higher risk for developing squamous cell carcinomas. If you’ve noticed any oozing, persistent, or unusual skin lesions, contact your doctor immediately.
