Our physicians always recommend that you examine your skin at home regularly. When your skin is clean, take note of any new or changing moles and blemishes and inform your physician of their state. While self-exams are not a substitute for a skin cancer screening in Fort Lauderdale, they can indicate if you need to schedule your screening sooner.

Early Screenings You Can Depend On
As the most common cancer, skin cancer affects 1 in 5 Americans.
Noticing the early signs of melanoma and other skin cancers is crucial to reducing your risks. Early detection may minimize cancer’s toll on your mind and body and may reduce the need for more drastic treatment measures.
At Galt Dermatology, our physicians will perform your full-body skin cancer screening in Fort Lauderdale, prioritizing early detection and personalized care. Our direct care model ensures you receive focused, high-quality attention essential for prompt identification and effective treatment of skin cancer.
What To Expect
The Process for Skin Cancer Screenings
Screening
When you arrive for your screening, your physician will ask you to change into a gown so they can inspect your entire body. If you do not wish to have a specific area examined, please inform your physician. Your comfort is our priority.
Your doctor will then use a dermatoscope—a handheld instrument similar to a microscope—to closely examine any moles or lesions.
Results
Once your physician has concluded your screening, they will inform you of any abnormalities they encounter. We’ll then review your recommended next steps, whether it be mole removal or monitoring the suspicious growth. If a biopsy is needed, we’ll carefully remove a small piece of skin to send for testing.
Treatment
Within a week or two of your biopsy, your physician will contact you with your results. If a form of skin cancer is present, we’ll walk you through what treatment will look like, depending on your situation. While more superficial and minor growths can be surgically removed under local anesthetics, more severe cases may require more thorough measures, including:
- Cryotherapy
- Excision
- Curettage and electrodesiccation
- Chemotherapy
- Phototherapy
- Immunotherapy
- Radiation
If your biopsy comes back negative, we’ll work with you to incorporate preventative measures into your routine and schedule your next annual screening.
